Democracy and Social Cohesion

Society is changing due to globalization and migration. Diversity – social, political, ethnic, religious and cultural – is increasing. Germany needs new ideas and strategies for resolving the resulting conflicts fairly, for combating injustice and discrimination, and for strengthening social participation. The country’s institutions must be designed in a way that allows everyone to get involved in politics and society. The Bertelsmann Stiftung develops ideas and initiatives that make German and European democracy more diverse and inclusive. We want to support people in engaging in politics and civil society so they can help shape the future of both Germany and Europe. Our goal is to have engaged citizens and a vibrant democracy in a highly cohesive society.
