The Bertelsmann Stiftung is focusing on economic, democratic and European issues to ensure Germany’s future becomes more innovative. In times of national challenges and international uncertainties, the foundation’s experts are seeking solutions to pressing problems. Its Executive Board – Hannes Ametsreiter, Brigitte Mohn and Daniela Schwarzer – presented the nonprofit organization’s analyses and ideas. To make Germany more competitive and fit for the future, the foundation recommends:
- Increasing public and private expenditures on research and innovation to at least 3.5 percent of gross domestic product (2024 benchmarks: USA 3.5 percent, South Korea 5 percent)
- Doing more to tap Germany’s startup potential in order to increase the number of startups by 30 percent
- Making Germany a leader again in future technologies in cooperation with its European partners, and thus
- Striving to become a leading player in AI and quantum technologies
- Promoting innovative technologies in the energy sector and competitive electricity prices for industry
- Ensuring consistent digitalization through the digital ID and high-performance networks
