Wir projizieren die demografische und wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der deutschen Bundesländer vor dem Hintergrund zu erwartender Trends, etwa im Hinblick auf die Produktivitäts- und Demografieentwicklung, bis ins Jahr 2035.

Das jährliche Wirtschaftswachstum (Potenzialwachstum) in Deutschland wird sich laut Studie in etwa halbieren. Im Jahr 2035 dürfte das Wirtschaftswachstum nur noch bei rund 0,6 Prozent liegen. Besonders die ostdeutschen Bundesländer, aber auch die strukturschwachen Regionen im Westen (z.B. das Saarland) stehen vor großen Herausforderungen. Doch eine Angleichung der Lebensverhältnisse der ostdeutschen Bundesländer zu den strukturschwachen westdeutschen Bundesländern bleibt in weiter Ferne. Hierzu müsste die Wirtschaft in Ostdeutschland teils doppelt so stark wachsen wie bisher, so unsere Studie.

Inclusive Productivity

The aim of the "Inclusive Productivity" project was to bring into the public debate an issue that is crucial for the social market economy and yet often underestimated: the increasing inequality in productivity development between companies and regions. During the project period from 2018 to early 2022, the aim was firstly to understand what the causes and consequences of this growing inequality are. On the other hand, options were developed as to what economic policy can do to increase productivity growth across the corporate landscape and thus also counteract social divisive tendencies.
