Program "Digitalization and the Common Good"
Digitalization and the Common Good
Algorithms and artificial intelligence are driving digitalization. They have become part of our everyday lives and are influencing the opportunities available to us. Without ethical and regulatory guidelines automated decision-making threatens to discriminate against both individuals and groups, thus exacerbating social inequalities. At the same time, the potential that algorithms have to benefit the common good remains largely untapped. To ensure that technology actually serves society, we want to foster social solidarity and individual self-determination in a world shaped by the use of algorithms and AI. We therefore advocate for rules providing effective protection and control, we highlight concrete opportunities that better serve the common good, and we help build the skills needed to achieve these goals.
