The AI Act between Digital and Sectoral Regulations

With the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act), Europe took a significant step in 2024 to safely regulate AI systems in line with European values. However, the AI Act encounters a complex framework of existing digital and sectoral legal regulations. The aim is to gradually implement the AI Act by August 2026, specify the practical implications of its provisions, and better align it with other existing legal frameworks. 

To establish a foundation for better alignment, reframe[Tech] commissioned a study by Prof. Dr. Philipp Hacker. The study examines selected digital laws—such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Digital Services Act (DSA)—on one side, and sectoral legislation in the finance, medical, and automotive sectors on the other. It sheds light on current challenges related to the AI Act and provides recommendations for improvement.
