Births and immigration are key factors in counteracting population aging and its various consequences. For Germany, however, our study shows that even less realistic increases in birth and immigration rates can hardly influence the forthcoming challenges in the social security systems. But a bundle of measures with different timing effects can help. This policy brief resumes the most important results of our study.

Cover Demographic Resilience

The project aimed to highlight the interdependencies and cumulative effects of population aging on public service systems and infrastructures. It demonstrated how these effects interact and reinforce one another across different areas of supply systems. Based on these insights, concepts were developed to help stabilize public services.
