Children in German single parent families live in poverty five times more often than children who live with both parents.

39 percent of single parent families are dependent on social benefits. One in two children in poverty lives together with only one parent. The study analyses the financial and legal framework as well as reform options to improve the situation of single parents and their children.

The study is available in German with an English abstract.
