Description

Innovative start-ups are an important pillar of a dynamic economy. In particular, founders with migration experience bring many qualities with them to build innovative companies. However, this potential is not sufficiently realized in Germany, even in an international comparison. On the basis of statistical surveys and interviews with founders and founding advisors, the study suggests concrete policy recommendations to promote founders with migration experience. The study is in German, but contains an a summary of the key findings in English.

This study is part of the worldwide research for the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Reinhard Mohn Prize 2020 on the topic "Fostering Innovation. Unlocking Potential".

Germany needs immigrants, as the country increasingly faces an aging population and skilled-labor shortages. The challenge ahead is to organize voluntary and forced migration in cooperation with international partners so as to benefit migrants, receiving countries and countries of origin alike.
