Description

The Migration Strategy Group on International Cooperation and Development (MSG) is an initiative by the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Bertelsmann Foundation, and the Robert Bosch Foundation. The MSG brings about 25-30 representatives from different German ministries and other relevant actors together at regular intervals, in order to discuss current migration-related foreign and development policy issues. From 2020-2021, the MSG focuses on how digitalization and technological development will likely change migration management and policy going forward.

Germany needs immigrants, as the country increasingly faces an aging population and skilled-labor shortages. In recent years, Germany has received – in addition to foreign workers – large numbers of refugees. The challenge ahead is to organize voluntary and forced migration in cooperation with international partners so as to benefit migrants, receiving countries and countries of origin alike.
