A current study of the Bertelsmann Stiftung illustrates the special burden that is imposed on families by pay-as-you-go pension schemes.
A child born in the year 2000 will end up paying on average an extra of 77,000 Euro into the German Statutory Pension Scheme compared to what he will receive back in pension entitlements. His parents, however, will not benefit from this. The study examines two proposals for a fairer and more sustainable scheme.
The Study is available in German with an English abstract.
