What are the prospects for the strategic partnership between Germany and India? In the second chapter of our policy brief series Parvati Vasanta takes a closer look at the respective interests and perspectives of both partners in trade relations. As the importance of the WTO declines, bilateral and multilateral agreements become more important for India and Germany as part of the European Union. Although figures show that Germany and India would profit from a free trade agreement, both partners often take different positions when it comes to the concrete terms of such an agreement. Furthermore, tendencies in India toward protectionism make it difficult to lift the trade partnership between Germany and India to the next level. (only available in German)
