Facts on the European Dimension of Displacement and Asylum: Morocco

The issues of “migration and flight” in Moroccon-German/European relations are much more comprehensive and complex than the exclusive debate about “safe country of origin – yes or no.” On June 17, the German Bundesrat (Federal Assembly) will vote on whether Morocco (like Algeria and Tunisia) is to be classified as “safe country of origin” in terms of asylum policy. The German Bundestag (Lower House of the German Parliament) has already agreed on a respective bill, yet it is still unclear whether there will be a majority of the Bundesrat voting in favour of the bill. So the debate will go on.
