Anette Stein is Director of the Education and Next Generation program. In 2003, she established the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) focus area, which releases a number of annual publications, including the report "State by State: Monitoring Early Childhood Education and the Educator Radar"for ECEC centers and elementary schools. Since 2012, she has also been responsible for the Family Policy area, which focuses on child poverty and social inequality among young people. Other key topics include investments in education and the follow-up costs of inadequate education. She joined the Bertelsmann Stiftung in 1996. Prior to that, she worked in local government and, as a qualified librarian, managed the Municipal Children's and Youth Library in the city of Moers.
