Reinhard Mohn Prize 2018: Living Diversity – Shaping Society

As a result of immigration, people with different cultures and traditions and greater religious diversity are now living together. How can coexistence in cultural diversity be achieved? The special analysis of our 2017 Religion Monitor explores this question and examines the views of the German population.

Cities have always been the site of interaction among people with different identities, lifestyles and customs. And they have always attracted migrants – from rural areas or other countries. The study offers an overview of the state of research on living together in culturally diverse cities.

Cultural diversity offers valuable opportunities – such as helping companies increase their innovative power. The executive summary of our recent study details its key findings on the positive impact cultural diversity can have on innovation and gives recommendations as how to use its potential.

The study explores the role of the arts for living in diversity. Based on 12 case studies from projects involving opera and chamber music to dance, film, blogs and art installations in public spaces, the study highlights the various ways in which different art forms address cultural diversity, immigration and integration.
