Description

Values play an important role in our lives. As representations of what is desirable, they provide an orientation for our actions and how we interact with each other. Shared and lived values such as equality, freedom and tolerance are indispensable for living together in an open, diverse and democratic society. It is also important for a life in diversity to be able to deal with different ways of life and values.

For this reason, values education - as a process of acquiring values and developing skills - is essential for individuals as well as society. But how do values develop? How can values education be promoted in a targeted way? What is the current practice of values education in Germany?

The contributions in this volume (the complete book is only available in German) try to answer these questions. They provide an insight into the specialist debate and the practice of values education in the family, nursery, school, youth work and peer group. Pedagogical concepts and methods are presented and explained on the basis of practical examples. Five interviews with proven experts provide a lively insight into the practice. Based on the analyses and examples, the volume formulates recommendations for values education. An excursus deals with values education from an international point of view.
