Trying Times 2019 – Living Document

Societies everywhere are facing profound changes. The megatrends of globalization, digitalization and demographic change are affecting many areas of life while posing several challenges to social cohesion: What is the fate of solidarity in a globalized economy? How do algorithms and social media influence how we live together in diversity? How can we shape the future of coexistence in an increasingly diverse society?

The Living Document reflects the discussions held at the Trying Times Conference 2019 in Berlin. It summarizes the challenges and recommendations identified as relevant to social cohesion in eight thematic areas. The Living Document is therefore to be understood as a “work in progress” and as a point of departure for further public debate. We welcome any additional input and comments!
