Hardly any other topic heats up tempers as much as the price of gasoline and diesel. A few cents more at the gas station – the excitement is already great and a new election campaign topic has been found. The reason for the higher costs is the ever-increasing CO2 prices, which are due to the ever-increasing climate policy ambitions of many states and the EU. On behalf of the Bertelsmann Stiftung, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy has modelled how a price per ton of carbon dioxide increased by a further 50 dollars would affect CO2 emissions worldwide and what long-term income effects this would have in various countries. Please find a summary of the findings on our blog.
