In 2011, the Bertelsmann Stiftung awarded the Reinhard Mohn Prize for the first time. The foundation’s 2011 Annual Report looks at the prizewinner – the city of Recife, Brazil – and the reasons why it was chosen. In her keynote speech at the award ceremony, German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised Recife’s selection, noting the city’s exemplary efforts in the area of citizen participation. In addition to a feature on the preliminary auditions and finals for the 2011 NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition, the report documents the projects we are carrying out to increase transparency in the healthcare sector. It also presents the winners of the 2011/2012 Jakob Muth Prize.
