Bertelsmann Stiftung – Facts and Figures 2016

Last year we invested €72.7 million in philanthropic projects. Since the foundation was first established, we have made a total of €1.35 billion available for the nonprofit activities we carry out to achieve our goals. In 2016, the Bertelsmann Stiftung spent €55.6 million directly on its programs, €1.8 million more than the year before. At the foundation, 367 employees are implementing some 60 projects designed to develop policy and social reforms. Feel free to click through our Facts and Figures 2016. About Bertelsmann Stiftung

Who is the Bertelsmann Stiftung? What are our goals? How do we carry out our work? This brochure is meant to provide clear, concise answers to those questions and others. Improving Education

Children and young people have a right to a high-quality education and to grow an develop in a nurturing environment. After all, they are the most important resource for ensuring society's future! Moreover, a democracy will only be resilient if its citizens are well educates and willing to get involved. The key to social participation is therefore an educational system that is both equitable and effective, one that introduces young people to political processes as early as possible and encourages their engagement. The Bertelsmann Stiftung has log been committed to achieving this goal. This brochure provides a brief overview of our efforts in the area of youth and education: Through our projects and studies, we increase awareness among policy makers and the public regarding the need for reforms; in addition, we recommend feasible solutions for the challenges society faces. The projects presented here have mostly been developed in a German context but are suitable for application in other political environments as well. Our 2013 Annual Report documents what was an eventful year at the Bertelsmann Stiftung. The high point was the awarding of the Reinhard Mohn Prize to Kofi Annan in recognition of his longstanding efforts in the area sustainability. Reinhard Mohn – Business Leader. Philanthropist.Citizen.

Assuming responsibility and demonstrating commitment were of utmost importance to Reinhard Mohn. He took responsibility for Bertelsmann, the family company, by successfully rebuilding it after the Second World War. One of the globe’s largest media groups, it now employs more than 100,000 people worldwide. Demonstrating his civic engagement, he founded the Bertelsmann Stiftung, using it to advance causes that benefit society and eventually transferring to it a majority of his shares in Bertelsmann AG. read more
