“Quality, economic feasibility and a focus on the public’s needs must become the core objectives of Europe’s public administrators,” Schäuble said at today’s ceremony. “This prize is designed to identify the best means for improving the performance of Europe’s administrative agencies and to motivate the entire sector to modernize its methods.”
“Administrative performance in Europe takes place in a variety of frameworks,” added Ernst Buschor, member of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Board of Trustees. “This administrative prize, Europe’s first such learning platform, is designed to make its many diverse and valuable experiences transparent.”
The European Public Sector Award is divided into three categories. “Common Action” honors those agencies that have succeeded in introducing long-term methods for including input from the public. “Generating Value Added With Scarce Resources” recognizes efforts that measurably increase efficiency and effectiveness, while “Controlling Change” recognizes solutions that best respond to demographic shifts.
All European public-sector institutions at the national, state, regional or local level can apply for the award, as can public-sector businesses and public-private partnerships. The winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony held on November 12 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
