The finalists for this year's NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition come from: Bulgaria, Canada, China, Germany, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Sweden and the Ukraine.

“The extraordinary young talents who will compete in the finals have much more to offer than just a good voice. They have thoroughly impressed us with their personalities, their discipline and their presence. I am delighted for each individual singer and wish all of them much success for their coming performance,” said Liz Mohn, president of NEUE STIMMEN and vice-chairwoman of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board.

From application to finals

Of the 1,430 singers who applied from 76 countries at the beginning of the year for a chance to participate in the Gütersloh competition, 42 young talents from 26 nations qualified for the final round during preliminary auditions held around the globe last summer. On Saturday, the ten best will compete in Gütersloh’s Stadthalle for cash awards and other prizes worth over €60,000. The finals concert will be streamed live on October 14 beginning at 7 pm on www.neue-stimmen.de/en, on the NEUE STIMMEN Facebook page and on www.medici.tv.

About NEUE STIMMEN:

The NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition was initiated in 1987 by Liz Mohn, president of NEUE STIMMEN and vice-chairwoman of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board. It is considered one of the most important international events for young opera talents. The competition allows up-and-coming singers to make contact with jury members, opera house managers and agents. The NEUE STIMMEN competition has already helped many young artists launch major careers, including the internationally renowned singers Christiane Karg, Nathalie Stutzmann, Marina Rebeka, Michael Volle, René Pape and Franco Fagioli.
