Peacekeeper, Diplomat in Chief, global statesman: During his ten years as the head of the United Nations, Kofi Annan was an almost daily presence in leading news stories around the world. During this time, his picture appeared mostly in connection with wars, geopolitical hotspots and humanitarian disasters. In all of these conflicts, Kofi Annan took action with the resources of the UN: refugee relief, UN peacekeeping troops, nutritional programs and, above all, with the force of his words. In awarding Kofi Annan the Reinhard Mohn Prize, Germany's Bertelsmann Stiftung honors his outstanding dedication and contribution to sustainable development, citing Annan's achievements as U.N. Secretary-General in securing the active involvement of global stakeholders from all sectors in the international policy process. The film was shown during the award ceremony on November 7, 2013 and portrays Kofi Annan's outstanding contribution.
