International Reform Monitor: Social policy, labor market policy, industrial relations

CIREM Foundation

The CIREM Foundation is a non-profitmaking private foundation, devoted to applied research and counselling in the field of social science

Since it started its activities in 1989, the CIREM Foundation has proclaimed its independence.

The CIREM Foundation is made up of three Centres, one in Barcelona, one in Madrid and International Centre based in Barcelona, whose objective is the implementation of development projects in third countries, within the framework of programmes funded by international institutions and, in particular, by the European Commission.

Payroll: the current payroll of the CIREM Foundation currently includes 35 researchers, 11 secretaries and administrators and 2 documentarists. The CIREM Foundation also gives annual grants to graduates in their third university cycle. Today there are six granted-aided collaborators.

Library: The CIREM Foundation has its own library specialised in economy and social sciences with 5,400 volumes and their own document base with over 9,100 registers.

For the development of our activities we have established a wide network of contacts with public and private institutions, both in the European Union and in beneficiary countries, and have the collaboration of the CIREM Foundation's own experts and external experts.

The activities carried out by the CIREM Foundation fall within four major lines of work:

  • The labour market and employment
  • Continuing training and human resources
  • Local development
  • Social Policy

The dual character which combines counselling services and academic research is one of CIREM's specific features, which gives an innovatory perspective to all its activities.

The most significant activities carried out by CIREM are:

  • Studies and applied research
  • Organisation, development and implementation of training actions and expert intervention
  • Design of intervention programmes
  • Evaluation of programmes and activities
  • Expert counselling
  • Organisation of specialised seminars and conferences
  • Dissemination, circulation and publishing of results of the activities and research work carried out.

The CIREM Foundation publishes the CIREMINFORMA newsletter on a regular basis (in English, Spanish and Catalan), in order to disseminate its activities and establish links with all those individuals interested in them. It also has a specialised documentation centre, open to the public on request, and a publication service for its studies and activities.
