National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, IPSS
The Melbourne Institute conducts applied economic and social research at the University of Melbourne. It was established in 1962 under the leadership of Professor Ronald Henderson and was the first economics research institute of an Australian university. The Melbourne Institute's activities cover a range of areas including esearch projects and publications in the areas of its five research programs:
- Business Cycles, Forecasting and Economic Indicators
- Innovation, Productivity and Enterprise Performance
- Labour Markets and Human Resources
- Fiscal Studies
- Social Surveys and Indicators
As well as a core staff of 25, including 15 professional economists, the Institute has a number of Professorial Associates including; Professors Creedy and Freebairn from the University's Department of Economics, and Dr Jonathan Kelley of the Australian National University. The Melbourne Institute also has an extensive network of other relevant experts and practitioners in academia, business government and community groups.
