Asia in Dialogue
Asia’s rapid rise in recent years, which has been based on advantageous demographic trends, strong economic growth and major investment in research and development, is having major repercussions in the rest of the world. India and China, in particular, are redefining their roles and relations around the globe, and the “Old World” can no longer ignore their economic strength and political ambitions, not to mention their cultural significance.
As the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s International Cultural Forum events in Tokyo, Beijing and New Delhi have repeatedly shown, the social transformations taking place in Asia will have far-reaching geopolitical, economic and cultural ramifications. As a result, the Bertelsmann Stiftung will be expanding its activities in Asia in the future. As an initial step in this direction, the 2006 Salzburg Trilogue, which was held from Aug. 9 – 11, 2006, addressed the topic “Asia ascendant, Europe eclipsed – Repercussions of the Asian Century?”
