Reinhard Mohn Prize 2011
Expert Workshop on June 9, 2010 in Berlin
On June 9, 2010, numerous experts from around the world came together in Berlin to discuss how democracies can become more vital through increased participation. “The discussion showed that making democracy more robust is a global topic and that we all face similar challenges,” said Dr. Jörg Dräger, member of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board, summing up the workshop, organized as part of the Reinhard Mohn Prize 2011. In addition to members of the prize’s working committee, participants included experts from South Africa, Canada, India, Brazil, the UK and Austria, as well as representatives from the OECD. Workshop discussions also focused on the challenges and opportunities relating to democracy-development efforts, as well as the selection criteria being used to choose the winner of this year’s Reinhard Mohn Prize.
