Sustainable Governance Indicators
The Sustainable Governance Indicators (SGI) examine governance and policymaking in the 31 OECD member states in order to evaluate each country’s need for and ability to carry out reform. Similar to the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Transformation Index (BTI), the SGI are divided into a Status Index and Management Index, which are calculated using quantitative data from international organizations and then supplemented by qualitative assessments from recognized country experts. The latest release of the SGI, which are updated every two years, took place in March 2011.
Project duration: Launched in April 2006

Considerable deficits in inter-generation fairness
The societies of most OECD states maintain their wealth and riches at the expense of their children and the succeeding generations. They thus endanger not only their own future-capability but also act unfairly towards their own descendants. This is the result of an international comparison study of Bertelsmann Stiftung on inter-generation fairness in 29 OECD states.

South Africa less attractive as a role model
About to serve as host for the BRICS summit, South Africa is experiencing problems in key areas such as education, health, social inclusion and unemployment – and thus cannot be considered one of the African continent's leading nations. Those are the findings of a comparative study of BRICS members carried out by the Bertelsmann Stiftung.
