"Future challenges facing the business community, foundations and society at large" was the title of the first conference in the Fundación Bertelsmann's "Dialogue and action" series. The event was held on Nov. 23-24, 2006, in Madrid, and welcomed 150 participants from a number of nations, including Spain's Crown Prince Felipe.

Twelve young opera singers from nine nations came together at the 6th "Neue Stimmen" International Master Class, held from Nov. 10 to 18, 2006, in Gütersloh. Their goal was to work with professional musicians from throughout Europe in order to improve their performance-related skills and help launch their careers.

At the 10th International Bertelsmann Forum, which took place on Sept. 22 and 23 in the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin, Chancellor Angela Merkel met with numerous European leaders to discuss the future of Europe.

Finland is the winner of this year's Carl Bertelsmann Prize, awarded on the topic "Active aging in economy and society." Liz Mohn presented the prize on September 14 in the Gütersloh community center.

On July 10, 2006, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan visited the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Berlin.
