Social divides threaten Europe's future viability

Europe is making some progress in economic consolidation, but social divides are growing. This is the conclusion of a comprehensive study conducted by the Bertelsmann Stiftung which assesses all European Union and OECD countries on the basis of 140 governance and reform indicators.

Is Ukraine as divided as most people think?

Does Ukraine's eastern region, the site of recent clashes, automatically favor Russia, since most people there speak Russian? Bold steps needed to unlock the potential of a common European labour market

Employment opportunities for citizens and economic prospects for companies can be increased by enhancing the geographic mobility of European workers. Aart De Geus reappointed chairman and CEO of the Bertelsmann Stiftung

The Bertelsmann Stiftung Board of Trustees has appointed Aart Jan De Geus to serve as the foundation's chairman and CEO for another three years. The appointment was made during the board's meeting on April 4. De Geus, 58, was appointed chairman and CEO in August 2012. His term of office now runs until July 31, 2018.

Guido Westerwelle joins Bertelsmann Stiftung Board of Trustees

Guido Westerwelle, 52, former German foreign minister, has been appointed to the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Board of Trustees, the Gütersloh-based foundation's supervisory and oversight body. His term of office begins January 1, 2015, and runs until the end of 2017.
