International Reform Monitor: Social policy, labor market policy, industrial relations

Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies, AIAS

The Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies was founded in 1998, as a form of cooperation between already existing institutes/faculties of the Universiteit van Amsterdam (University of Amsterdam). As such it is funded with public money. We do occasionally do contract research and organise post-graduate programmes for contract students, so we get some funds via the private sphere as well. The institute is a form of collaboration between researchers who work in different (sub)faculties, all in the field of work/labour. The constituting (sub)faculties are the Law faculty, the Economics faculty, the Psychology department, the Sociology department, and the Medical faculty. The number of people working directly in the bureau of the institute (fulltime or parttime) is 10, but the institutes that collaborate in the institute together have a much larger staff. The institute can draw from this staff for projects

The institutes research mainly deals with  Labour law and social security law

  • Labour economics
  • Work- and organisational psychology
  • Work- and organisational sociology
  • Occupational Health
  • Labour relations
