International Reform Monitor: Social policy, labor market policy, industrial relations
Caledon Institute of Social Policy
The Caledon Institute of Social Policy was founded in 1992. Canada's most influential think tank on social policy, Caledon is a private, independent, non-profit organization not affiliated with or attached to any university or government. The Institute has 4 full-time staff and 1 part-time staff person, supplemented on occasion by consultants hired on contract. Core funding is from a private foundation, supplemented by project funding from governments and other private foundations. Caledon also undertakes contractual work for Canada's federal and provincial governments.
The Institute's research deals with social policy on a broad front, including income security (e.g., child benefits, pensions, unemployment insurance, social assistance, benefits for persons with disabilities), taxation, health, social services, community economic development, employment policy, social spending and poverty. Caledon develops and promotes concrete, practicable proposals for the reform of social programs at all levels of government and of social benefits delivered by employers and the voluntary sector.
