Research Institute for Labour Economics and Labour Law, FAA-HSG

The Research Institute for Labour Economics and Labour Law (FAA-HSG) was founded in 1985 and forms part of the institute network of the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The FAA-HSG is divided into a legal section (directed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Geiser) and an economics section (directed by Dr. Fred Henneberger). Currently, ten scientists are employed on a full or part-time basis. The FAA-HSG is funded by (i) private, corporate, and institutional donors, (ii) the University of St. Gallen, and (iii) consulting mandates from private as well as public organisations. In the past years, research has concentrated on the following topics:

Foreign direct investments of Swiss firms and their effect on the Swiss labour market
The econometric evaluation of Swiss active labour-market programmes
A comparison of private and public-sector wages and employment conditions
Swiss social policy aimed at elderly and invalid persons
The legal issues associated with the new Swiss Labour Law
The monetary valuation of unpaid labour activities and its implementation in Swiss legislation

The quality of wage data collected by telephone interviews

Industrial relations in times of change
