Socioeconomic background and cultural heritage often determine the -- limited -- opportunities a child receives in Germany’s educational system, something that becomes even more apparent at the regional level. The Bertelsmann Stiftung’s KECK project increases transparency in this area by providing hard data on the factors that influence children’s development. In doing so, it helps policymakers target the allocation of resources more effectively, on the one hand; on the other, it uses its online atlas to give practitioners, parents and others a clear picture of how they can get involved to improve conditions for "their" children.
