The Future of Europe

The EU needs new approaches to social issues so that it can increase its legitimacy in the eyes of Europe’s citizens, among other reasons. With almost half a billion inhabitants, the EU must become more cohesive if its motto of “united in diversity” is to remain credible. At the same time, it must become more forward-looking in its external relations. That means it must develop peaceful, productive methods of dealing with its neighbors, from the Mediterranean to Russia.

The “European Model” must therefore address a range of subjects, from local social issues to cross-border conflicts. The Bertelsmann Stiftung analyzes the process of European integration and proposes strategies for managing pan-European policies. 

Our activities are divided into two focus areas: Europe and the World, and Europe and Its Citizens.
