It has long been a tradition, begun by Reinhard Mohn, for the Bertelsmann Stiftung to publish an annual report with facts and figures about the foundation and its work. As a nonprofit foundation, we are keenly aware of the importance of transparency. We therefore want our annual report to show both what we have recently accomplished and what we have planned for the future.
In this report, the Executive Board reviews the past year and looks forward to coming activities. You will find a description of our new programs and their objectives, along with information about our program directors. Please feel free to contact them directly - we welcome any opportunity for an exchange of views. Rather than an anonymous, isolated think tank, we are a foundation that is open to the world, and our specialists are committed to examining a wide variety of exciting ideas and projects. One of the key aspects of our mission is to make our findings available to a wider audience and to encourage dialogue.
As in any year-end accounting, you will also find a comprehensive description of the people who work here and of our financial situation - information that underscores the multitude of activities in which we were engaged last year.
