Dr. Eduardo Montes

Dipl.-Ing. Eduardo Montes, born in 1951 in Madrid, studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Madrid. Eduardo Montes joined Siemens S.A. in Madrid in 1975 as a development engineer. In 1982 he served as Project Leader at PA Technology Cambridge, where he was appointed CEO one year later. Montes first became marketing director for Alcatel S.A. in Madrid in 1985, then was appointed two years later as director of the technical office of the EUREKA project of the Industrial and Technological Development Center at Spain's Ministry of Industry.
In 1988 he took over the position of general director and member of the Executive Board at Alcatel, and in 1994 he was chosen to serve as president and CEO of GEC Alsthom Transport in Madrid. In 1995 he returned to Siemens Spain as CEO, then was named head of the Southwest Europe Region of Siemens AG as well as president of the Siemens Group in Spain. From 2006 to 2008, Eduardo Montes was a member of the Executive Board of Siemens AG and Chairman of the Communications division in Munich.
Since the former Communications (Com) division was dissolved in fiscal year 2007 and many of its business activities eliminated, Eduardo Montes will assume the following responsibilities at Siemens effective January 1, 2008: executive advisor to the CEO of Siemens AG, member of the Executive Board of Nokia Siemens Networks, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens Enterprise Communications Management GmbH, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens Spain and other regions worldwide.
Eduardo Montes' distinctions include being named "Best CEO" in Spain in 2005 by the management consulting firm AT Kearney. He was also named "Manager of the Year" by the business magazines Ejecutivos and Actualidad Economica. In 2007 Eduardo Montes was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his work in promoting German-Spanish relations. Montes is active in numerous honorary positions working to further the interests of Germany and German-Spanish projects.
