Prof. Uwe Bicker

Trustee of the Aventis Foundation and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Dade Behring Holdings GmbH

Uwe Bicker, born in 1945 in Halle/Saale, Germany, studied chemistry and medicine in Berlin and Heidelberg. He received his doctor's degree in both fields and was promoted to professor at the University of Heidelberg. In 1975 he started his career with Boehringer Mannheim (later Roche AG), where he held several management posts and was appointed a member of the company's Executive Board in 1992.

In 1994 he joined the Hoechst Group to serve as chairman of the group's subsidiary Behringwerke AG; he also joined the Executive Board of Hoechst Marion Roussel and was named chairman of the Executive Board of Dade Behring, Inc., Deerfield/Illinois, USA. Since 2004, Prof. Bicker has held positions on several advisory and supervisory boards.

Among other posts, he serves as trustee of the Aventis Foundation, as chairman of the Supervisory Board of Dade Behring Holdings GmgH, chairman of the Marburger Universitätsbund, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute Marburg and trustee of the Stroke Foundation of the Bertelsmann Stiftung.

The University of Heidelberg awarded Uwe Bicker an honorary senator by in 2005. In 2006, he was awarded an honorary doctor by the University of Klausenburg and he received Germany's Federal Cross of Merit, First Class.
