The contribution made by the nonprofit sector to the social development and economic power of Germany
The empirical data on the economic, job market and sociopolitical significance of the German nonprofit sector, as well as its internal structure, have not been updated in more than ten years. All of the efforts for improving the general political, financial and structural conditions in the nonprofit sector are therefore based on outdated data and unsupported assumptions. There is no systematic and up-to-date information that can provide a sufficiently differentiated picture of the current situation as well as future changes and developments in the nonprofit sector.
The "Placing Civil Society on the Economic Map" project formed a basis for integrating the methods of the UN Nonprofit Handbook into the official statistics for Germany. These methods for the nonprofit sector are internationally applicable and have been established and practiced in many other countries. This creates the necessary conditions that enable the collection of future, continuously updated basic information on developments and potentials within civil society to be made available to managers within the nonprofit sector, public policy, the sciences and the general public.
