Global Visions - Creating a world that works for all
Humanity is faced with a number of interdependent challenges of global scale and greatest urgency, that can only be solved by long-term and global co-operation. Based on the discussions of Trilogue Salzburg 2009 the Bertelsmann Stiftung attempts to compile an overview of those actors that pursue a global agenda. To this end a database on Global Initiatives is under construction the results of which can be downloaded as a flash animation.
The database attempts to list Global Organizations and Global Action Networks. Global Organizations shall be defined as organizations that work to resolve global challenges and pursue a global agenda with actions of global reach. Regional organizations shall also be termed "Global Organizations" if they exhibit the ambition and capability of having a global impact in the future or the likelihood of global spill-over effects. The global challenges targeted by these organizations are understood as those problems addressed by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UNMDGs). Global Action Networks are in the definition of iScale such Global Organizations that create a diverse network of organizations of stakeholders in their issue, develop interdisciplinary action-learning with real-time experiments to adress novel and enduring challenges and generate systemic change by creating cross-sectoral (business-government-civili society) actions.
The database is an ongoing project. Any suggestions on the database are welcome.
