The Centre for the Study of Living Standards, CSLS

The Centre for the Study of Living Standards (CSLS) is a national, independent, not-for-profit research organization founded in 1995. It is funded by contracts and grants from federal government, provincial governments, foundations, labour unions, and business associations.

Its objective is to contribute to a better understanding of trends in and determinants of living standards in Canada through research. The institutes research focuses on general economic topics, labour maket issues, productivity issues, social indicators, and business-labour cooperation.

The activities of the Centre for the Study of Living Standards are directed by a 11-person Board of Directors composed of leading Canadian economists and former senior economic policy makers. There are two full-time employees, the Execuive Director and a research assistant. The CSLS develops research networks on particular topics. Over the course of a year up to 100 persons may be involved in CSLS projects.
