The Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, ETLA

ETLA was founded in 1946 as an independant body. There are 50 staff in the Institute and its two subsidiaries, 35 of which are researchers.

The Main activities are: Short and medium-run macroeconomic and sectoral forecasting of the Finnish and international economy, and research in six programmes: technology, knowledge and competitiveness; industrial economy and international busineess; integration and Eastern Europe; labour market: macroeconomics and financial economics; and environmental economics.

ETLA is basically financed by the key Finnish private sector institutions and central organisations of the industry and employers, major banks and financial institutions, insurance companies and major corporations in retail trade. ETLA also intensively carries out projects commissioned by various ministries and public and private bodies, both in Finland and abroad like the European Commission.
