Dr. Wulf H. Bernotat

Former Executive Board Chair, E.ON AG; Chair/Member of the Supervisory Board of several corporations including Allianz SE, Metro AG and Ruhrkohle AG

Dr. Wulf H. Bernotat, born in 1948 in Göttingen, studied law in his hometown, graduating with a doctorate in 1976. Bernotat began his professional career as corporate counsel in the legal department of Shell AG in Hamburg, where he worked from 1976 to 1981. Until 1984 he was business development manager for Eastern Europe at Shell in London.

From 1984 to 1989 he returned to Hamburg, continuing to work for Shell AG as the head of various divisions and eventually becoming the general manager of Shell Portugal in Lisbon.

After his time in Portugal, Bernotat took on a new position as Area Coordinator Africa/Coordinator Coal Business Southern Hemisphere for Shell in London from 1992 to 1995. Following this position, he moved to Paris, where he became a member of the Executive Board of Shell France.

From 1996 to 1998, Bernotat was a member of the Executive Board at VEBA OEL AG in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and was responsible for marketing and distribution as well as for all downstream activities (consumer-related activities in the oil and gas industry). He subsequently took over as chair of the Stinnes AG Executive Board in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, a position he held from 1998 to 2002. From 2003 to 2010 he was chair of the E.ON AG Executive Board. He joined the Bertelsmann AG Supervisory Board in May 2006.
