The Bertelsmann Stiftung Leadership Series offers practical knowledge and innovative workshops on the topics of leadership and corporate culture. The various studies will assist practitioners from all sectors with their work. They offer an overview of leadership approaches, describe the leadership implications of Web 2.0, and present the principles and patterns of effective leadership development programs. Participants in workshops will also have the opportunity to learn about the latest approaches from renowned speakers. In addition, those who are interested may use new web formats to attend courses (such as webinars) available worldwide.
The aim of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Leadership Series is to contribute substantively to the discourse on leadership in Germany and to the international leadership community.

Leadership - Approaches, Developments, Trends

Leadership as a topic has gained momentum in times of crisis and in light of the rapid developments of Web 2.0. The book "Leadership - Approaches, Developments, Trends" assists the reader in anchoring and leveraging their own stance on leadership. The book is available in German and English as hardcover as well as E-Book.

WE magazine - leadership in a networked world” features contributions of "cutting edge" thought leaders, practitioners and pioneers. It has been produced in cooperation and support from the Bertelsmann Foundation together with the international online magazine "WE".

Master Classes

Master Class with Ronald Heifetz: Adaptive Leadership

The fast pace and increasing complexity of today's world require new skills of leaders. These challenges are subject of the third Master Class at the Bertelsmann Foundation Leadership Series. Professor Heifetz will give an overview on his approach of adaptive leadership in a one-day workshop. Following an introduction to the concept, participants will have the opportunity to work in peer-groups hands-on their own challenges and to debrief their discussion subsequently together. The third Master Class is envisaged to take place in Berlin in late 2011/early 2012.




Practically oriented studies will assist practitioners from all sectors on leadership in their daily work with boards, peers and colleagues. Toward this end, the reader "Leadership – approaches, developments, trends" covers early to latest management and leadership approaches in five quarterly installments. The study on “Web 2.0 & leadership” analyses the impact of the evolving web on leadership and a possible paradigm shift. The results have been presented by Grady McGonagill, ED and Tina Dörffer, MPA amongst others at the International Leadership Academy in Boston 2010. Also available is an analysis of the principles and patterns of effective leadership development programs. Last but not least a survey on expectations by prospective MBA students is available.




Via new web formats, the BSLS shows interested participants how to take part in course offerings available worldwide. The first webinar was well attended, drawing more than 250 people from 21 countries.
