Reinhard Mohn Prize 2011
The search has now begun
The 2011 prize is dedicated to the topic “Vitalizing democracy through participation” and, in keeping with the focus on democracy, the search campaign is being organized as a wide-scale, public effort that allows people from around the globe to nominate, discuss and evaluate potential prize winners. Anyone wanting to participate in the process can do so by accessing the website www.vitalizing-democracy.org.
The 2011 Reinhard Mohn Prize will be presented to an individual governmental institution or one working in collaboration with an organization from civil society. Nominated projects should be successful at bolstering democratic structures and institutions, integrating underrepresented social groups or establishing new approaches to democratic problem solving.
Nominations can be submitted via the website until August 22, 2010. A total of 20 projects will then be selected in September based on predetermined and transparent criteria and evaluations made by the public. In October, a working committee comprising members from all domains of society in Germany will nominate five to seven candidates. In March 2011, about 12.000 representatively selected individuals will select the prize winner. The award ceremony will be held in Gütersloh in June 2011.
